When I wake up, my head is pounding. The rest of my body hurts right along with it. Things seem a bit blurry, and it takes me a while to realize it's because I'm not wearing my glasses. Well, crap. Where I am, it feels unusually warm and humid. The ground is coated in a layer of dirt, and a horrible stench fills the air. I can see bars in front of me. I repeat, crap.
"Looks like I'm in a cell or something," I inform myself. Three walls, no window, and bars make up the room. Definitely a cell, I'm trapped. "So, brain, how did we manage to get into this one?"
I stand up and take a closer look around me. The room contains things you expect to see in a cell. There's a bed, a toilet bucket, a locked door for keeping me in, and a… a corpse? Oh Crap! There's a dead body in here. I whimper a little, realizing the corpse is the source of the smell. Have I been left here to die? No, no, no. Somebody will come by eventually. Of course they will. Heh, heh, I'm just being stupid. They'll come by with food and water. Of course they will, right?
"Hello Mr. Corpse. How are you doing?" Dumb question, the guy is dead. He probably is doing very poorly. "Hey, uh, do you know why I'm in this place, or how I arrived here? I mean, you have been here longer than I have." I pause awkwardly. Am I really talking to a corpse? Well, obviously yes, I am. The better question is why. What possessed me to speak to a rotting corpse? The answer is simple.
    I've lost my mind.
We were already aware of this though, brain. We already knew this. It isn't something new. Not in the slightest.
"Uh, this may be an awkward question, Mr. Corpse, but how did you die? Did you die of thirst or hunger or something else? I'm sorry to pry. I was just hoping your answer would give me some insight on what they plan to do to me. I mean surely they wouldn't bother to kidnap me just to let me starve in a cell with a dead man. You've been dead for quite a while, haven't you? Yeah, I could tell from the smell. Oh, not that smelling like that is a bad thing! It's completely natural to smell a bit at your current stage of decay. Everyone does it at some point, I assure you. Oh, and I've angered you now. I am so sorry."
I stare at the corpse for a little longer before turning away. I can here footsteps nearing my current position. Is it an actual living person? They get louder as they get closer, but there is only one set. A guard or at least what I assume to be a guard stops in front of my cell. He fishes around on his key ring for a key. Well, what else would he be looking for on a key ring?
"Hello," I begin, hoping he will speak to me. "Are you here to take me somewhere else?"
He finally finds the key he wants and unlocks my cell. He then motions me forward. I step towards him, and once he can reach me, he grabs my arm. We start down the hall. Hmm, I wonder where he's taking me. Is it somewhere interesting?
This is why I just should not stay up til 2:30 in the morning talking to my friends back west on an empty stomach. the weirdest crap comes about. I was skyping my very good friend :iconpen-pen1996: again, and some how we arrived on the topic of what would happen if we were to wake up by a corpse in a cell. This spawned from that conversation. Honestly, I just didn't have anything to do this afternoon (well yesterday now), so I ended up writing.
