The door that stood before me represented a decision.  I could take the answer I knew was wrong, or I could risk my freedom on a random guess.  I knew the door wouldn't take me home.  I also knew that opening any of the various exits would immediately give away my position.  Every minute I wasted deciding was one minute closer to my recapture.  There wasn't really anything worth the risk back home, assuming I guessed right.  My enemies outnumbered my friends. I could use a fresh start anyway.  I pulled the door open and stepped out into an alleyway.
The light was just beginning to fade as I stepped through the exit.  Glancing up, I noted how the sky was turning from a pale shade of blue to a vibrant purple.  After a brief moment of admiring the sunset, I turned and walked calmly out of the alley and into the stream of people, presumably heading home after a long day of work.
"It's the fifteenth hour already?" a voice to my left exclaimed.  "I can hardly believe it.  It feels as if the day has only just started."
"I know," another voice replied.  "Time always seems to slip away before a festival."
"The day was too long if you ask me," A third grumbled.
"You are the only person I know who can be in such a foul mood before a festival, Reese," The second voice chirped happily.
"Festival preparation is grueling.  May Varish drag it all into his Eternal Kingdom," the third voice, Reese, growled angrily.
The three voices faded off as they turned onto a different path.  I continued on, listening to other conversations.  Soon, the streets were mostly empty, and the sky was dark.  Candles and lamps twinkled in windows and stars glowed brightly in the sky.  I turned my face upwards, taking in the dark blues and indigos that filled the deepness, interrupted only by little pinpricks of white and yellow.  The sky looked nothing like home, but the newness made it exciting.
Gazing up, I found myself wandering through my own mind.  I soon realized something very important.  I was broke and homeless in a completely new place.  My heart dropped.  Then I realized just how hungry I was getting.  Prison glop wasn't a very filling substance, and it certainly hadn't been meant for high amounts of activity.  I sighed, rubbing my hand tiredly across my face.  How stupid could I be?  Honestly, you'd think all of those years of experience would amount to something.  My moment of anger and self-loathing was interrupted by a shout.
"HELP!  No, get off of me!  SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!"
I took off, racing towards the scream. Moments later, I was standing in the middle of the road, staring at a man and a woman wrestling over a coin purse.  The woman, who I had heard earlier, continued to cry out for help every chance she had.  The man had a look of grim determination as he fought for control of the money.  Seeing nobody else around to offer assistance, I hopped in.  Getting to arms around the man, I pried him away from the woman.  She scrambled to her feet, hugging the coin purse to her chest.  The man wriggled from my grip and ran off.  I ignored him.
"Thank you, sir," the woman panted.  She was young and fairly plain looking, with dusty brown hair and quiet green eyes.
I smiled politely. "It was nothing."
"Well, how can I repay you for your kindness?"
"Um, you really don't need to…" I started.  She cut in, shushing me.
"Nonsense! Of course I have to do something for you."  She grinned sweetly at me.  It was at that moment that my stomach decided to growl, loudly.  "How about I buy you some dinner?"
Well, as of today, It has been one year since my character Silas got his name. I wrote this in honor of the occasion. I plan to get around to actually writing out his entire story at some point, but I'm incredibly lazy. This will have to do for now. Why not start towards the middle of a story.

Silas makes no sense. How can he go to another dimension and still understand the people around him?
